May 10: Student COVID-19 Update
COVID-19 INCIDENT COMMAND STRUCTURE TRANSITION
As of May 10, 2021, Brazosport College started the transition from the Emergency Incident Command structure that began in March of 2020 to our regular administrative structure. All COVID-19 questions or concerns should be directed to Marshall Campbell, Vice President, Human Resources and Chair of the Executive Council.
As a part of this transition toward normal campus operations, please be aware of the following:
- BrazosportCollege continues to have an increased focus on health and safety protocols. All individuals should:
- wear a face mask/covering when inside Brazosport College buildings, unless you are alone in your office with the door closed; if you are a welding student actively welding and wearing a welding face shield; or if you are an instructor lecturing students, and you are wearing a face shield in addition to maintaining 6 ft. of distance,
- maintain social distancing, and
- thoroughly wash their hands.
- Effective June 1, 2021, daily online health screenings are no longer required; however, individuals should perform a self-health check prior to coming to campus and stay home if sick.
- Individuals needing to self-identify as testing positive, suffering from COVID-19 symptoms, or being in close contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 must complete the Contact/Exposure Report Form at//www.d-onis.com/coronavirus/report/.
- Based on recent guidance, social distancing is modified, effective May 10, 2021, to 3 feet for the majority of classroom settings and college activities.
- The COVID-19 campus update, which has been biweekly, will now be a weekly update on Thursdays.
We are able to make this transition due to the CDC’s new guidelines, the increase of vaccinations, and the reducing rate of transmission in our area. Most importantly, the commitment by students, faculty and staff to following Brazosport College health and safety protocols including physical distancing and wearing of face masks/coverings, allows our community to returning closer to normal on-campus operations.
Per the Texas Department of State Health Services, as of Monday, March 29, 2021, anyone over 16 years of age is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Texas. Please consider receiving the vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine adds one more layer of protection for our students, staff, faculty and community and helps give us the best chance of getting “back to normal” sooner. Local COVID-19 vaccine appointment information can be found atwww.www.d-onis.com/coronavirus/vaccine/.
Please note, for the Pfizer vaccine, recipients must be 16 years of age or older. For the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, recipients must be 18 years of age or older. Vaccines are given free of charge. Insurance is not required.
