Strive 2 Drive winners to be announced during Welcome Week

One lucky Brazosport College student is about to be named the winner of a new car.

Brazosport College will announce the finalists and the winner of its 2019-2020 Strive 2 Drive giveaway during a live, interactive Zoom event at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27. The event is part of the Office of Student Life’s Welcome Week activities, which signals the beginning of the new semester at Brazosport College.

The event, which is sponsored by Honda of Lake Jackson, BASF, The Dow Chemical Company – Texas Operations, Freeport LNG and MEGlobal, was originally scheduled in April, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.

During the presentation, Brazosport College President Dr. Millicent Valek will reveal the five finalists before randomly selecting the lucky winner, who will be awarded with a new Honda Civic. The high point earner for the year will also be announced and rewarded during the presentation.

This is the third year Brazosport College has awarded a new car to a student during its Strive 2 Drive campaign. BC student Ashley Lundy won the car in the inaugural event, followed by Gwyneth Sidney last year.

Strive 2 Drive is a student success initiative and is based on participation activities in and out of the classroom. It operates on a defined point system, with points assigned based on the length, importance and educational value of the activities. Every participating student has been entered into a drawing for the grand prize, a new Honda Civic, with five students randomly selected to be entered into a drawing for the car.
