Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis to jazz up the Clarion on Jan. 21

Delfeayo Marsalis, one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz, will bring his talents to The Clarion at Brazosport College on Jan. 21. Marsalis, who will be performing alongside the Brazosport Jazz Orchestra, will take the Clarion stage at 7:30 p.m.

This is the Grammy-winning performer’s second trip to Lake Jackson, as he previously brought the Clarion house down back on Nov. 17, 2017.

A member of the well-known Marsalis family of musicians, Deleayo Marsalis has dedicated his prolific career to music theater and education. He has toured internationally with many jazz legends, such as Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones and Slide Hampton, as well as leading his own groups.

He has created both the Uptown Jazz Orchestra and the Uptown Music Theatre, a non-profit organization that empowers youth through musical theater training. Marsalis has written 16 musicals and composed more than 90 songs that have introduced kids to jazz, while reaching more than 5,000 students nationally with his “Swinging with the Cool School” soft introduction to jazz workshops.

Marsalis has a dual bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Production from Berklee College of Music, and a Masters in Jazz Performance from the University of Louisville. A doctorate has also been conferred from the New England College.

Tickets for the show are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors, BC Employees/Former Student Association members, and $10 for students and children.

Marsalis’ performance continues a busy 2022-23 season for The Clarion at Brazosport College. Other upcoming performances include Lorrie Morgan on Jan. 27, Vision Duo on Feb. 6, Tony Jackson on Feb. 17, Lonestar on March 24, Rising Tide: The Crossroads Project on March 27 and Gina Chavez on May 19.
