BC’s Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off with music, games and fun

Brazosport College recently kicked off its Hispanic Heritage Month with a college and community celebration at the college’s MEGlobal Student Pavilion.

The event featured music by the popular Houston-based Mariachi group, Mariachi Orgullo, with guest appearances by a variety of singers.

Another highlight was performances by children from the Westside Elementary Ballet Folklorico. The group danced to many different traditional and cultural songs, including “Las Chiapanecas,” “La Raspa,” “El Caporal” and “Las Sonajas de Michoacan,” among others.

那些参加活动so treated to plenty of food and games, including rounds of Loteria, with prizes awarded to winners. The celebration was capped with a runway contest for both adults and children.

The kickoff event was the first of many activities scheduled at Brazosport College throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Other upcoming public events include a scholarship workshop on Oct. 4, a fun run on Oct. 8, a panel discussion on Oct. 10, a performance by comedian Jacob James Garcia on Oct. 12 and a drive-in movie showing of the film, “Encanto” on Oct. 13.

Brazosport College kicked off its Hispanic Heritage Month with a celebration that featured a Mariachi band, food, games and plenty of fun. The kickoff is only one of many public events scheduled throughout the next 30 days.
