College & Community Band to host free concert on Sunday, March 6

The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a concert featuring the Brazosport College and Community Band on Sunday, March 6 at The Clarion at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson. The concert, which begins at 2:30 p.m., is free and the public is cordially invited.

Selections to be performed by the College and Community Band include:

Allegro Barbaro”— adapted from a piece by Bela Bartok for solo piano.

“Highway of Heroes” —this Robert Buckley piece was inspired by a stretch of highway that pays homage to fallen soldiers.

“把信仰”—the world premiere of a march written by community band member George St. George.

“Scheherazade Selections” —themes from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s interpretation of the tales of the Arabian Nights.

“表演者”a blazing galop by local composer and retired band director Jerry Crummel.

“El Gato Montés” —a concert march from the 1916 opera “The Wildcat.”

“A Maid in Bedlam” —arranged by Randall D. Standridge, this is a beautiful setting of this Scottish folk song.

“The Comic” —a clever original by David Bobrowitz, with quotes from various classic gems.

“跳吉特巴舞!”- - -influenced by the swing music of the 1930s and 1940s and written by Robert Buckley as a tribute to Canada’s King of Swing, Dal Richards.
