BC Jazz Band to host free concert on Friday, March 4

The Brazosport College Department of Music will present a free jazz concert featuring the BC Jazz Band and Jazz Singers on Friday, March 4 at The Clarion at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson. The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is free and the public is cordially invited.

Selections to be performed by the BC Jazz Band include:

“Cissy Strut”— a classic New Orleans standard by the Meters.

矿工只是“— an easy-groovin’ minor swing tune by Les Hooper.

“Coconut Champagne”— a Maynard Ferguson flagwaver.

“Canal Street Commotion”——一个新的Orleans-inspired street beat.

“Jo Jo Calypso”— a lighthearted jazz calypso.

“The Woogie”— Wycliffe Gordon’s quirky swing tune.

“Old School”— a funky original by Jeff Jarvis that celebrates old-school funk.

“Blues in the Closet”— an up-tempo blues tune by Oscar Pettiford.

Selections to be performed by the BC Jazz Singers include:

“Cry Me a River”— a beautifully aching torch song recorded by countless jazz artists, including Julie London and Ella Fitzgerald, featuring Jazz Singer Abigail Spates.

“Don’t You Worry About a Thing”– Stevie Wonder’s hit, inspired by Tori Kelly’s recent remake and featuring Jazz Singer Aubrey Turner.

“Got To Get You Into My Life”– based on Earth, Wind, and Fire’s remake of the Beatles’ classic song.

“Footloose”– an energetic version of the classic movie theme song.
