BC, ACC bands to share the stage for special holiday concert on Dec. 5

The Brazosport College and Community Band and the Alvin Community College Concert Band are teaming up to bring the community a special free holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 5.

The performance, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at The Clarion at Brazosport College, will feature both bands on stage performing together. Directors will include Brazosport College’s Richard Birk and Alvin Community College’s David Griffith.

Selections scheduled to be performed on Dec. 5 include:

“Festive Fanfare for the Holidays”— James Curnow’s bright fanfare is infused with energy, joy and a lively spirit, and sets the tone for a festive holiday concert.

“Cambridge Carol”— Arranged by Vince Gassi, this tune begins in a light march style and gradually crescendos to a joyous and resounding finish.

“Greensleeves”— Alfred Reed’s arrangement of this classic holiday song brings out the beauty of the piece, as well as a high level of musicianship.

“Sleigh Ride”— An all-time favorite, Leroy Anderson’s tune moves quickly and is loads of fun.

“Ho Ho Ho”— Hop in the sleigh and join jolly old Santa Claus with this Christmas march incorporating familiar holiday melodies written by community band member George St. George.

“Charlie Brown Christmas”— Charlie Brown and his band of “Peanuts” characters come alive in this medley that includes “Linus and Lucy,” “Skating,” “Christmas Time is Here” and “O Tannenbaum.”

“Christmas in a Nutshell”— A musical whirlwind of Christmas carol snippets nestled between excerpts from “The Nutcracker.” With more than 20 holiday references packed into two-and-a-half minutes, this tune provides a major dose of holiday cheer.

“Ultimate Christmas Sing-along” —Everyone’s invited to join in singing four of the most popular holiday carols — “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “Silent Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
