BC Jazz Band & Jazz Singers to perform April 29 at the Clarion
The Brazosport College Jazz Band and Jazz Singers will perform their Spring Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29.
The show, which will be at The Clarion at Brazosport College, is free to the public.
Selections to be performed at the April 29 show include:
“Moanin”’—Charles Mingus’ rollicking swinger originally recorded on his “Blues and Roots” album in 1960.
“Hola! Senor Loco” —A crazily festive Latin original by Victor Lopez.
“No Moon at All” —A mambo setting of this classic jazz standard that has been recorded by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Julie London and Diana Krall.
“The Jazz Police” —A scorching rocker by famed big band leader Gordon Goodwin.
“Road Song” —One of jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery’s signature songs.
“The Lonely Bull” —Originally recorded by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, this is an updated ska version of Alpert’s hit.
“I Get a Kick Out of You” —Jazz singer/pianist Jamie Cullum’s up-tempo arrangement of this Cole Porter classic.
“Bugle ‘N’ Boogie” —A trumpet section feature in the Big Band style of the 1940s by Rob Vuono Jr.
“It’s Not Polite to Point” —A medium swing workout for the trombone section by Gordon Goodwin.
“I Can’t Believe That You’re in Love with Me” —The New York Voices’ hard-swinging arrangement for vocal jazz quartet and big band.
“Honk!” —A funky original by Philadelphia native Jeff Jarvis.
