BC introduces associate degree options for Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing
Brazosport College is offering new associate degree options for computer-savvy professionals who are ready to build tomorrow’s digital infrastructure and defend against digital threats.
Beginning Fall 2022, students can work toward Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in either cloud computing or cybersecurity. Thirty-credit-hour certificate options are also available for both programs.
With the need for networking specialists and information security analysts continuing to grow, these fields are potentially high-wage careers that require a specialized skill that can be obtained through degree courses at Brazosport College.
The Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing A.A.S. degrees are designed to teach students the essentials needed to enter a career in information technology. The classes teach theory, but also provide hands-on training so students will be prepared to secure networks, infrastructure and defend against cyber-attacks in a real-world environment.

Cybersecurity is an essential component of every organization. The risks involved in cyber-attacks include loss of data, intellectual property, brand equity, and possible legal ramifications. Understanding how cyber-attacks happen is the best-proven defense against such attacks. In recent years, many high-profile data breach cases have made headlines. Companies like Yahoo, Uber, and Target faced security threats that exposed possibly millions of Americans' private information like usernames, passwords and credit card numbers. As hackers and cybercriminals develop new ways to access sensitive systems and information, even the largest companies in the world must stay vigilant about security vulnerabilities.
The threat of further cyberattacks will drive companies to upgrade their networks. In addition, the focus on big data across industries translates into more work for technology firms. With the demand for cybersecurity professionals at an all-time high, positions are available in virtually every industry, with the median salary being more than $98,000 in 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
